Detailed walkthrough
All necessary components
Meeting
Once inside the Riften Town Market, you can talk to Madesi the Merchant about his jewelry for sale. During the conversation, you will learn that he is now experiencing very great difficulties in the supply of materials due to the presence of numerous bandits on the roads of Skyrim. Madesi will tell you that he needs help collecting some of the components to make a precious necklace, namely, he needs to bring: one mammoth tusk, one gold ore and two flawless sapphires.
Search for materials
Flawless Sapphires, like all gems, can be found randomly in mines. One guaranteed Flawless Sapphire can be stolen from the shelves in the Inner Sanctuary of the Temple of Dibella in Markarth.
Mammoth tusk can be obtained from a killed mammoth, as well as bought from hunters and some merchants. Three guaranteed specimens can be found at the College of Winterhold in the Arcaneum; eight guaranteed specimens can be found at the Clear Springs Camp.
Gold ore can be found randomly, but the easiest way is to find a gold mine in the Kolskeggr Mine. There is also Mine Lost Chance; it is closer, but does not have as many gold veins as Kolskeggr Mine. On the other hand, you can just use an ore spell and convert one iron ore into one gold ore.
Reward
You can return found components for Madesi as you find them, or all at once. It will give you 100 gold for each element (i.e. 200 gold for two sapphires). After you bring them all, you can ask Madesi if he needs anything else, after which he will thank you with a leveled necklace.
Note
- Completing this quest will count towards helping Thane Rift's quest.
- Try not to buy components for this quest, as the cost of purchasing a component may exceed their reward.
- The Clear Springs Camp is the location for the Bandit Leader's Bounty quest, possibly the Dungeons (Bandits) quest with Amren, and possibly the location for the Lunar Amulet quest, allowing you to easily complete multiple quests at once if you decide to find a mammoth tusk in that location.

Quest stages
- The following empty quest steps were not listed in the table: 10, 200, 250.
Notes
- Any text in angle brackets (eg,) is a parameter set by the Radiant Quest engine that will be assigned a value when the quest is received.
- Not all of these entries may appear in the game log: which entries appear and which do not - depends on how the task is performed.
- Stages are not always listed in order of completion. This tends to happen with tasks that have multiple possible outcomes, or where certain tasks can be performed in an arbitrary order.
- If the entry is marked as " Completion of the task", this means that the job is removed from the active list, but new stage entries for this job may continue to be added to the log.
- When playing on a PC, you can use the console to advance through the quest by entering the setstage (((ID))) stage command into it, where quest is the in-game quest ID, and stage is the number of the stage to go to. However, it is not possible to proceed to uncompleted (i.e., skipped) quest stages. However, with the help console command resetquest (((ID))) you can reset the quest stage.
The Soul Stone is one of the artifacts of The Elder Scrolls game universe. It is needed to replenish the magic and strength of the character. To fill the stone with souls, it is necessary to kill various creatures with weapons of a certain rank. The characteristics must indicate whether a given sword (or staff, dagger, etc.) can fill the stone. The stronger the killed creature, the more the artifact is needed to take away its powers. Of course, not counting the "star of Azura", which has an infinite supply of souls. Such a stone costs crazy money from innkeepers or merchants, but it is quite difficult to get it.
Soul stones are used to improve the hero's weapons and reload them. This requires special spells that are cast on staves and swords. Usually, after use, the stones disappear from the character's inventory. These artifacts can be found from merchants and innkeepers, as well as from various creatures.
Also, in story locations or when completing quests:
- Soul stones can be obtained from the Black Limit, in a place where minerals accumulate.
- Steal some stones from the archmage's mansion in Winterhold. They are located near the pentagram on the shelves.
- You can make pentagrams of souls at each of the protagonist's houses. Along with them appear and a few stones.
- Offer Dervis Neloren assistance in clearing magical energy hotspots. For this he will thank you.
- Spheres and spiders usually feed on stones.
Each type of stone has its own soul size..
So what are they like:
- Tiny stone. It absorbs only the souls of defenseless creatures up to the fourth level, except for those who have consciousness or reason. It can be a dog, a deer, a wolf, a cow, a rabbit, etc. This includes draugr with skeletons. Its capacity is only 250, and the cost is relatively small. The id of such a filled stone is 002E4E3.
- Small. It also absorbs into itself only the souls of weak beings, but up to the sixteenth level, except for those who have consciousness or reason. It can be a troll, sabertooth, spriggan, atronach, ghost and others. Its capacity is already 500, but still quite small. The id of such a filled stone is 0002E4E5.
- Ordinary stone. He, just like the above, absorbs only the souls of weak creatures, but already up to the twenty-eighth level, except for those who have consciousness or reason. It can be a Falmer, an Ice Troll, a Falmer Guardian, a Spriggan Matron, and many others. Its capacity is 1000 and its cost is 150. The id of such a filled stone is 0002E4F3.
- Big Stone. For all beings who have not yet reached the thirty-eighth level. Except the smart ones, of course. These can be giants, draug warlords, atronachs, scorched spriggans, and many others. Its capacity is 2000 and its cost is 350. The id of such a filled stone is 0002E4FB.
- Great stone. For absolutely any creatures, except reasonable ones. Its capacity is 3000, and the cost is 500. Such a stone is valued much more than others in Skyrim, a great stone of souls filled - Id: 0002E4FF.
- Black stone. For all beings that only exist. Including the smart ones, of course. Its capacity is about 3000, and the cost is 750. The id of such a filled stone is 0002E504.
- Azura Star. The same infinite soul gem that is used for all creatures except sentient ones. Its cost is 1000. Azura's star id is 00063B27.
- Black Star. The most valuable stone for souls, which can be used for all creatures of the Skyrim universe, including, of course, sentient ones. It also costs 1000. The id of the black star is 00063B29.
In order to instantly get any stone, you need to enter its code into the console. It's done like this. For example, let's take any of the stones in Skyrim a great soul stone filled with the Id of this stone - 0002E4FF.
From left to right: Tiny, Small, Normal, Large, Great, and Black Soul Gem
Soul Stones (original Soul Gems) refer to various subjects, which can be used as traps for shower dying creatures and people. Stones filled in this way can be used for item enchantments or reloading enchanted weapons. Note that the Black Soul Gem can be used to capture the soul of an NPC and will always store Great Souls.
The game can also be found soul gem shards. They are classified as minor loot and are not true Soul Gems.
Empty soul gems can be obtained from mineral spawns, for a total of 2-3 gems of any size, including black soul gems. Blackreach is a place with a large number of mineral outlets.

Notes
Bugs
- Sometimes, by throwing a stone out of your inventory, you can clear it of a filled soul without destroying it. This allows you to get rid of an unwanted soul (like a small soul in a Great Stone) without losing the stone itself.
- Filled gems can lose souls when they are placed in containers (such as nightstands), removed from the container, and put back into inventory. This happens if you already have empty soul gems of the same size and value. Apparently, this is a kind of bug when the stones "get confused" with each other (occurs with Regular, Small and Tiny stones shower). It is recommended to save the game before moving empty and filled stones from the inventory. Losing filled soul gems can be annoying, so you can use your companion for this problem. For example, if you have a list of empty and full stones and want to stack them without losing souls; just give them to a companion and take them back if needed. Thus, souls made of stones should not be wasted.
- Solution: If you put soul gems in a container, you can pick them up intact by finding a filled gem of the same type (or via the console) and removing the problematic gems, having the found one in your inventory. DO NOT use a stone that you already put in the container, it won't work for some reason. Also, this does NOT work if there are less than 6 gems in the pack, only 1 full soul gem can be returned. [ needs verification - see Skyrim Discussion:Soul Stones ]
Today we will be interested in the great stone of souls in Skyrim. Many well-pumped players are familiar with this object. But why is it needed? Where can I find the Great Soul Gem? It is necessary to understand all this at the very beginning of the game. In fact, the subject being studied is extremely important. Especially for those who plan to enchant and actively use weapons and ammunition with additional enchantments.
Description
The Great Soul Stone in Skyrim is a kind of soul store. In this stone, you can place the soul of a creature of absolutely any level.
The item is needed for:
- enchantment of various objects;
- recharging things that have ever been enchanted;
- storage showers of different sizes.
That's all. In fact, everything is simpler than it seems. One Great Soul Gem has a weight of 0.5 and costs 200 coins. Selling the item is highly discouraged.
Where to looking for
How to get a great soul stone in Skyrim? There are different scenarios for the development of events.
The player can find an item:
- from merchants for a small fee;
- in chests while traveling;
- on the corpses of Centurions;
- steal from different characters, for example, from magicians;
- in dungeons and houses;
- in mineral outcrops in Blackreach.
If desired, the player can independently give himself a great stone of souls. To clear the corresponding item, do this by throwing it out of the inventory.
Issuing an item

Item types
It is worth paying attention to the fact that in Skyrim the black soul stone, the ID of which is useful when using the game console to place an item in a character’s bag, is different. In The Elder Scrolls V, users can come across different types of related items.
Here's what it could be:
- black soul gem (common);
- "Black Star" (unique).
The first type of item is the most common. It can be bought from merchants, as well as found during the exploration of dungeons and caches.
"Black Star" is a unique soul gem given out for the quest of the same name. There is no other way to get it in the Skyrim game world.
