As an experiment, I myself tried to compare two key female images- Gerda and the Snow Queen - in the interpretation of two artists.
The Snow Queen
In my opinion, the image of the Snow Queen by Nika Goltz turned out to be incredibly complex. There is severity in it - but without severity, majesty - but at the same time fragility and even grace, restraint - but not impassivity.
Here is the famous episode when the Snow Queen, together with Kai, flies in her white sleigh over the roofs and spiers of the old city: “Kai looked at her. She was so good! He couldn't have imagined a smarter, more captivating face. Now she did not seem to him icy, as at the time when she appeared outside the window and nodded her head to him - now she seemed to him perfection ”(hereinafter the translation of A. Ganzen).
In the drawing by Nicky Goltz, Kai does not stop looking at the Snow Queen - with trepidation, surprise, and even as if with delight (but let's not forget that fragments of the troll's mirror have already fallen into his eyes and heart). We peer into the face of the Snow Queen: a slight half-smile and an attentive intelligent look from under lowered eyelashes - it contains deceit, determination, and tenderness. Although the kiss of the Snow Queen was "colder than ice", but in the way in Goltz's drawing she barely perceptibly touches the boy's cheek with her hand, something similar to caress is guessed.
In the illustration by Boris Diodorov, the Snow Queen, dragging Kai into her palace, looks distant, even threatening, and does not fascinate, but, on the contrary, repels with her cold beauty.
The look of a powerful sorceress is directed forward, into the endless snowy distances, her lifeless face can hardly be called captivating, and in the way she hugs Kai, there is only an expression of power over him. And Kai doesn't look at the Snow Queen at all; in his eyes, set aside, one can read anxiety, despair and some kind of melancholy. With one hand he holds his hat, which the wind tries to tear off his head, with the other he clasps his legs, stiff with fear. Between him and the Snow Queen there is no mutual, even deceptive, attraction.
Gerda
The episode of Kai's abduction by the Snow Queen is one of the key episodes in this tale, and all artists depict it in their illustrations. But the artists reveal the image of Gerda through different episodes.
In many of Nika Goltz's drawings, Gerda seems to be self-absorbed and focused on her experiences, as if she draws strength to move forward, in memories of lost happiness. The artist was not afraid to portray Gerda as truly suffering.
One of the most emotionally powerful illustrations relates to the episode of Gerda’s meeting with a raven: “A large raven jumped in the snow right in front of her ... He could not speak the language of people well, but, apparently, wished the girl well and asked her where she was wandering in the wide world so lonely. Gerda understood the word “lonely” perfectly and immediately felt all its meaning. She told the raven her whole life and asked if he had seen Kai.
In the picture, a thin blond girl is sitting in the snow, her bare feet tucked under her, with a sad and at the same time humble expression on her face, she does not look at the crow - inside herself, but in the background a stunningly beautiful black and white forest froze. It's really captured loneliness.
It seems to me that Gerda in the image of Boris Diodorov is not a reflective character, but an acting one. For Diodorova, it is more important to show how she steadfastly overcomes all difficulties and knows how to fight for her happiness. In many illustrations, Gerda runs barefoot through snow whirlwinds, into the cold wind, in the gathering twilight. And to emphasize how small she is, there is always a lot of space around her in the drawings - therefore, the girl's courage causes even more respect.
Diodorov's episode of Gerda's farewell to the deer turned out to be very expressive. In the text, it is described as follows: “... The deer did not dare to stop until he ran to a bush with red berries; then he lowered the girl onto the snow, kissed her on the lips, and suddenly large, shining tears rolled from his eyes. Then he darted back. The poor girl was left alone, in the bitter cold, without shoes, without mittens. She ran forward as fast as she could."
In the drawing, Gerda, rising on her tiptoes, embraces a deer, which has bowed its large furry head towards her. The girl's arms and legs are bare, although it is so cold that the air she exhales turns into a thick fog. The northern lights cut through the surrounding darkness, in the background a lone bush with frosty red berries trembles in the wind. The deer is crying, but no tears are visible on Gerda's face. She remains alone in a clearly hostile big world, but she feels some kind of indestructible strength.

Nika Goltz and Boris Diodorov managed to create two completely different artistic and emotional images of the Snow Queen fairy tale, which are revealed through the confrontation between a powerful ice sorceress and a little girl with a loving heart. I hope that when Fedor grows up, he will be able to tell in detail about his perception of the illustrations for this tale, but even now it seemed to me that we completely understand each other.

Beautiful girls are rarely alone, but often lonely.
Returning home after a hard day's work, going to visit someone, meeting friends at the cinema, gym, restaurant, and anywhere - this feeling does not leave you, the feeling of loneliness .... This is neither bad nor good. You're just alone. Beautiful, proud, inaccessible and cold. Your exquisite taste is certainly not for everyone. You have many secrets, many positive aspects, a brilliant mind. But that guy, quite nice, going to meet you, hugs a completely different girl, who, perhaps, loses to you in many ways, and not only outwardly. You quicken your pace, or you just turn away.
At such moments, the questions “why not me”, “why alone”, “what he found in her” are sharpened ... All thoughts end with thoughts about karma, or that there are no worthy guys, not the place, not the time. In a word, a million excuses. But the fact remains. You walk alone, all so beautiful, cold and inaccessible. But one.
Why is it so, why do not they choose us, stunningly beautiful, unique, magnificent and luxurious? Yes, of course you can blame the guys too. Do you think they are so brave? It wasn't there. As soon as it comes down to business, the first step - they are not our helpers. Not all, of course, but most. The root cause of this is fear.
Yes, yes, male fear. And not even one
1. Fear of rejection. Guys do not approach true beauties, because they are afraid of rejection on their part, and rejection for the stronger sex is a humiliation of his own dignity, a blow below the belt.
2. Uncertainty. A man thinks that you will not like him, because you must have a lot of admirers and he will not be the best among them.
3. He does not want to start an acquaintance because of the fear of falling in love with a beauty, confident in advance that this falling in love won't do him any good. Such girls, in his opinion, will leave him without explanation, without even thinking, as soon as they find a more suitable option for themselves, since they are prudent and do not know how to love.
4. A man is afraid of the high demands of a beautiful girl. The fear that he is financially unable to provide for the lady of the heart stops him.
5. Most men low self-esteem, and being close in the company of a beauty does not allow the guy to feel comfortable.
6. Men are afraid of proud, confident girls in herself because she can make fun of him with her friends or start joking with him, and the stronger sex will never allow herself to become a laughing stock.
These reasons are primary, connected only with internal male fears and stop them from moving to a closer level of communication with a girl. But there are deeper problems that lurk within yourself and do not allow you to build relationships with the guys you already have as friends. According to men, female beauty is warm and cold. Warm beauty is the presence of charm, a smile, positive emotions: it captivates not only with its appearance, but also with its friendliness to men. Cold beauty is arrogant: such beauties seem to be bitchy, arrogant, capable of throwing a barb at a man and belittling him at the expense of their own beauty. And this is not surprising, because women with a chiseled figure, perfect facial features and gorgeous hair love themselves and know their worth, so they (as it seems at first glance) can behave very impregnably.
Guys don't like the proud and will prefer the less beautiful girl, but cheerful, charming and prone to self-irony. Therefore, girls who are gifted with beauty should change some behaviors, become more receptive to the world around them, and then there will be a greater chance of meeting their soul mate. After reading and listening to the opinions of the guys that it is necessary to remove the crown, to be simpler and reach out to you, I decided to conduct an experiment.
Going to a festive party, she radically changed her image. Instead of the usual dresses, shoes, evening makeup - jeans, a T-shirt, only arrows from makeup, flat shoes, and most importantly - a smile and a positive attitude. And what… I talked with a lot more people, met interesting guys who called back the next day, got a lot of positive emotions.
I do not call for simplicity in clothes. Just melt your cold haughty demeanor. If you are a hundred times beautiful, men are simply afraid of you. In fact, you are a positive, sweet, smiling person. Show it. The Snow Queen is a beautiful image. But even she was alone. Let a good mood, good karma into your life, don’t complicate everything, don’t drive yourself crazy, smile at the world and the world will smile at you, give at least the slightest chance to all the timid and shy ones to approach you, and take a better look at who you meet.
